Weekly update 2/24
A truck came to load on Monday January 8th. We started with a small group at 1:00 PM. First loaded Henk Muller's Ford Transit and then a nice load of usable goods. This with destination Breaza, an important distribution point in the middle of Romania.
The driver was seriously delayed due to protests by German farmers. His compatriots at the border also caused delays. Customs officials and their colleagues from the service that monitors public health and the environment now extensively check every truck carrying relief goods as standard. This equates to a long wait and a lot of whining. The truck will be in Breaza on Monday.
We hoped that another truck would come and load in Broek op Langedijk, but unfortunately this did not work out. On Wednesday we were able to clean up and sort. Just like collecting goods from various places. There was another collection campaign on Thursday, our warehouse is quite full again.
As I wrote last time, we will be loading a truck for Ukraine in collaboration with Jan Pilkes from St. Caritas from De Rijp. This will arrive next Wednesday and this trailer can load 100 m3, so that's making good progress. Jan comes with his own loading team.
A truck is being planned to go to Breaza, the date on which it will arrive is not yet known.
Reghina from Ticau has also been busy handing out food, which resulted in photos that give a good impression of how that works.
Joszi from Tirgu Mures' main goal is caring for children. This is done by providing food, clothing, showering and helping with homework. Joszi also wanted to ensure that winter aid was provided to the people in the neighborhood there. The previous report already contained photos of the distribution of heaters. Thanks to a sponsor we were also able to have firewood delivered. The photo album below shows how this went.
Here is the link to this photo report.
Henk and Marin from Band don't sit still, a lot is happening there. A big thing was a demonstration at the town hall to dump crushed stone on the muddy paths. This has paid off! At least the road is now passable again. For the rest, the photo album below speaks for itself. The latest plan is the construction of a playing field for the children. Henk also asks for seed potatoes and seeds again.
Elena and Viorel are busy and there is a demand for more food and warm clothing, we will do our best to provide this as much as possible. Viorel wants to make extra meals for three months. Very important at this time of year. Winter is the worst for poor people. Below is a photo album of this, these are moving images.
Toth Attila from Peris sent a short but intense message.
On Friday afternoon, January 12, we held our well-attended New Year's reception, it was pleasant and good to meet each other like this.
A big thank you to our fire brigade for allowing us to use their canteen again, a wonderful opportunity for such a meeting. Our catering team handled it very well again this time, many thanks for that.
