Weekly update 7/26 Engels

Saturday morning, I had a phone conversation with Toth Attila from Peris. We talked about this winter, among other things. He told me that it's been an unusual winter, and many people have run into problems, particularly a lack of money to buy food and keep their homes warm.

The government has taken measures to ensure a better balance between the country's income and expenditure. This has made everything much more expensive, and incomes are lagging behind. Employment is declining because businesses are closing. Finding work abroad is also becoming more difficult.

The aid he can provide, thanks in part to us, is crucial for an increasingly large group. We don't always realize this, but what we do with our aid is especially important now.

That's why it's wonderful that a significant amount of supplies arrived again last week.

Our sponsors are not abandoning us, and a large group of volunteers is actively involved in making it possible to send aid shipments on this scale. This year, the count is already at 10.

The purchases for the Easter package campaign have also been completed and approved by our supplier, Lidl, and they will arrive on March 5th. Supermarket prices in the Netherlands are lower than those in Romania.

The trailer we loaded the week before arrived in Breaza on Tuesday, February 17th. Distribution began immediately, with Gerard-Jan and Miranda helping out.

Imola shared news about the activities with the elderly in the village on her blog. It's a success story; it supports community spirit and solidarity. Loneliness lurks everywhere, and for older people, this is a good way to prevent it.

The purchase of wood briquettes from a factory in Reghin is going according to plan the quality and price are both good. Demand is high, and the combination of these briquettes and the often poor-quality firewood makes it nice and warm. Csaba has created a photo album of the season's activities.

Last Wednesday, February 18th, there were collections in Schagen, Hoorn, Zaandam, and Velzen. The number of people dropping off supplies was larger than usual. We were able to complete the cleanup in the morning. Unfortunately, loading potatoes in Wieringermeer wasn't possible; the truck that was supposed to arrive had problems. Later that afternoon, a truck arrived in Broek op Langedijk.

The next morning, we loaded the 21 tons of potatoes at Beetsma's in Wieringermeer. The truck was transported by road to the farm in Marghita; if the schedule goes according to plan, it will unload there on Monday.

On Thursday and Friday, we were able to unload a trailer with usable supplies. This means our inventory is back up to par. We still have a load of potatoes waiting for us to collect, so we won't be bored for a while.

Marin and Elena cooked again and shared goods. They were able to buy some of these, and the rest came from the Netherlands. It's no surprise they were happy with this.

Henk Muller has also organized several other activities.

Viorel and Elena have again developed various activities, including after-school activities and homework. Hot meals were also distributed in Haranglab and Cipau. These abuses shouldn't exist.

Next Wednesday, a trailer will arrive to load food and head to Breaza. There's still a lot of sorting and collection to be done.
