Weekly update Engels 21/25
The past week was all about a transport to Ukraine. This in collaboration with the Caritas Ukraine-Holland foundation from De Rijp. We have had a partnership with this foundation for a long time, led by Jan Pilkes.
The same applies to St. Manna from Alkmaar, led by Jac Smit. The Manna foundation is committed to preventing food waste. If supply and demand are not in balance, gardeners and arable farmers will have surpluses or shortages. In the event of a surplus, St. Manna is the linchpin in the network that prevents it from being thrown away. Through the collaboration with the Dutch food bank, these products then end up with people who are forced to be “customers” of the food bank.
The food bank has grown into a large organization. With many volunteers, the food bank ensures that people who have gotten into trouble receive a healthy food package. It concerns large numbers.
In some cases, the supply is so large that we also share in it. This has been the case with potatoes in recent weeks. The batch of potatoes, totaling 14,000 kg, that was available last week, we were able to send to Ukraine together with other useful relief supplies.
Our contacts in Romania still had sufficient stock and the need is high in Ukraine. It is almost unimaginable what kind of disaster the inhabitants of this country have ended up in. Our logistics partner Mission & Relief arranged a Ukrainian truck for the trip to Pastor Vasyl in Chemerivtse.
Siem and Nico had already arranged for everything to be in our warehouse on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, May 21, a very large driver, Mitskevych Ruslan from Ukraine, arrived with his truck to load. Too bad there was a language barrier, with google translate it worked a bit, a normal conversation was difficult. Miranda arranged some new clothes for him and that he could take a shower. He also likes to use the lunch and he got a nice package for the journey.
The loading went well, the trailer was full before noon. The paperwork is a bit more difficult because there are customs formalities involved. With the help of Thomas Stolk from Mission and Relief this also worked and the driver was able to leave for Ukraine a few hours later.

The truck that we had loaded on May 14 was unloaded in Marghita on May 21. The 2nd truck that we had loaded that day arrives in Breaza on May 26. This one was loaded onto a train that left later.
From Breaza the distribution continues steadily. Csaba sent some photos of it.

Henk Muller also reported on his extensive activities.

It is nice to see that the after-school care project in Getz, the village near the farm in Marghita, is going so well.

Viorel and Elena from Deaj have done their best again. This time they also slaughtered a pig to provide the people they care for with a good meal.

Joszi from Tirgu Mures has cooked for the children again. The shower and clean clothes program was also used a lot, as was the after-school care. The potatoes from Theo and Carla Potjes from Schermer were also among the food that was distributed. It was not the intention when they went into the ground as seed potatoes, but it is nice that these poor people were helped with it.

Toth Attila from Peris held his annual yard sale, the proceeds are for his children's home there. It was a great success.

Next week we will load for Breaza. Potatoes will probably be available again.
I think we are still doing useful work. Thanks to our volunteers, sponsors and not to forget our contacts in Romania.
