The parcel campaign was again a great success, no fewer than 5.200 were made. The tension was still high at the beginning of the week. The preparations looked good, but the number of products was just not quite enough. Thanks to people from our valuable network, we were able to solve this during the week and the stock was more than sufficient. We now have quite a bit of experience with production. Because demand continues to increase, we continue to push the limits of what is possible. Enough stock, space, a plan, it's all necessary. But more importantly, enough people who want to come and help. We can consider ourselves fortunate that fears of insufficient helpers were also unfounded this time. It is undeniable that the average age of volunteers is increasing and some have dropped out. During the packing itself you see how many people of good will are busy. We did not load a truck for Romania last week. The stock we had before was not diverse enough to put together a nice load. In addition, packing the packages on March 21 and 22 requires the necessary preparation. On Wednesday, March 13, we made room for this in our storage at Dulleweg 20 in Broek op Langedijk. We temporarily have access to a storage space where things can be stored. The box supplier from Ermelo brought 5.500 empty boxes. On Thursday, March 14, two trailers from Romania arrived to unload with the food we had ordered from Penny Market there. Penny Market is part of the German REWE group. Yesterday Nico and I returned home safely from a useful and interesting trip to Romania. The main goal was to discuss the progress and the start of the season on the farm in Marghita with Attila. We were lucky with the weather, it was really spring, and the sowing and planting was in full swing. A beautiful period when you see what happens until the harvest period. I have often written that farmers in Romania are having a hard time due to... the low prices they receive for their products. Unfortunately, quite a few are now in danger of going under. Attila buys a large part of his planting material from a company in Hungary. A modern and large company that grows seeds into small plants under optimal conditions. During the tour we received, I asked, among other things, how future-proof this activity is. The answer was simple – as long as people continue to eat, this will continue. We shipped eight trailers of valuable relief supplies to Romania in the first two months of 2024. In collaboration with Jan Pilkes from St. Caritas, another three to Ukraine. Not a bad start, thanks to everyone who made this possible. We are starting to get used to transport by train, the first two trailers we shipped this way have now arrived at their destination. The journey takes a little longer, but this way we avoid delays at the border. On Monday, February 26, a trailer was unloaded in Breaza, which had been loaded in Broek op Langedijk on February 7.
