Weekly update 8/24

Transport by train to Romania takes some getting used to. With road transport you can follow the truck well, but with the train it is different. The first trailer that went to Romania by train has been delayed, according to the latest reports it will be unloaded in Breaza on Monday.

Last Wednesday, February 21, we loaded a trailer with destination Marghita. We were able to put together a nice load including food and a lot of tasty things. Furthermore, mainly used clothing and some furniture. This trailer also went on the train, so we had to secure the load extra well. It takes a little more time but prevents problems.

In Weesp we were able to buy a batch of preserves from Esther Veenstra (Frenze BV) at a reasonable price that will be included in the Easter packages. Nico and Abe picked this up there, and there were also collection jobs in Amsterdam, Schagen and Den Helder.

We were also supposed to load for Jan Pilkes from St. Caritas, but this did not
happen. Angry Polish farmers blocked the border with Ukraine, truckers could not get through. Next Tuesday a trailer will be loaded in Broek op Langedijk with destination Nowa Odesa. Jan comes again with his own loading team.

The situation in Ukraine is deteriorating, with many casualties due to the ongoing war violence. More and more people have also lost their homes, their jobs and therefore their income and savings. These people are now all dependent on others. Aid organizations are becoming increasingly important, but the number that are still active is decreasing, a worrying development.

Miranda and Gerard-Jan Schuur visited Marin and his wife Hennie in Band last Friday. They were able to experience how the meal project is progressing. This time they could eat in the multifunctional space behind their house. As I wrote before it is a trial for a month, it looks like it will be good if we continue with it longer. The housing project is also going well. There is a lot of effort from Marin and Hennie and their team.

Henk Muller regularly sends photos with an explanation, his range has increased considerably. He encourages the construction of gardens again, fortunately we have some seed as well as a quantity of seed potatoes. Henk easily makes contact with people who need help.

Toth Attila from Peris sent photos and a message about his activities, as I wrote before, he is a versatile inspiring man. This time also photos of the processing and storage of potatoes and vegetables from the farm in Marghita.

Reghina from Ticau has also taken action again to help the people around her.

In Breaza, a local baker bakes bread from flour from the farm in Marghita. Csaba and Imola can then distribute it to their many contacts, together with other relief goods.

Viorel and Elena from Deaj cooked a lot of food and baked bread. It's nice to see how it all works. You don't have to wonder whether it is necessary or whether it will end up well. What would it be like without the help from the Netherlands and the efforts of Viorel and Elena?

On Wednesday we will load a trailer that will be destined for Botosani. Cristi is busy with the regulations surrounding his children's home and boarding school. They have plenty of rules in Romania, often not very meaningful ones. People from Denmark are visiting and together with them he started distributing food in the area.

So two trailer goods will be leaving in the coming week. Loading on Tuesday February 27 for Ukraine with Jan Pilkes' team and Wednesday February 28 with our own team for Botosani.

Preparations for making the Easter packages have been started. Goods have already arrived and another order has been placed at the Penny Market in Marghita. We need space in the warehouse on Dulleweg in week 12.

The actual making of the packages (5,200) will take place on Thursday, March 21 and Friday, March 22. People who have helped before will receive an email from Rob about this. Have you not participated before, but would you like to do so? Please contact us via info@stichtingpromotie.nl or call 06 28941795.
