Weekly update 42/23

On Monday, October 16, the truck that Attila loaded onto the farm at the weekend, full of potatoes, onions, carrots and other vegetables, was unloaded in Botosani. The intention was that part of it would go to Igor in Ukraine. It is still uncertain whether this will succeed, due to the tightened controls at the border with Romania / Ukraine. In connection with the fight against corruption, there are even more rules that make it extra difficult to transport aid supplies to this country.

Cristi has already taken some of it to poor people in villages in the area, to a children's home, to an old people's home and they can also use it in Casa Ioana. The costs for these types of shelters are skyrocketing. The minimum wage has increased again by 10%, energy costs continue to rise, etc. etc. Income often does not keep pace with this. Cristi was also unpleasantly surprised this week by a very high electricity bill. It remains to be seen whether this invoice is correct, but payment is required quickly.

On Wednesday we were able to load another truck, this time with destination Breaza. This time it was a combination that is normally used to transport hanging clothing. Lots of content but a “limited” loading capacity. The driver and truck owner regularly asked to keep a close eye on this.

There were also several collection jobs and many volunteers were active again. Another nice shipment of useful goods left for Romania.

This truck crossed the border without any problems on Friday and was unloaded in Breaza on Saturday morning. There was immediately a lot of interest in the cargo, the storage will not remain full for long. Csaba said that people are already starting to worry about the coming winter. It is very difficult for many to keep enough food and warmth in the house. Gas, electricity, firewood are very expensive, just like food.

Construction of the house for Kata in Bichis starts on Monday, five construction workers will arrive for two or three weeks to assemble this prefab house. These people are allowed to spend the night in the parsonage of the church there. Eduard and Csaba will supervise and monitor the construction. Unusual for Romania, payment is made in installments afterwards, so no advance payment, for example.

They are going to rebuild Imre's mother's house that was burned. Csaba and Imola have consulted with the mayor. It appears that the municipality will arrange or pay for the reconstruction. The mother and her children still living at home now live with neighbors and have received a lot of clothing. Also some money from people around her. If anything else is needed, we are of course ready to help.

Album supplemented with new photos.

Reghina from Ticau is busy generously distributing the goods that have been brought there. Many people there received help thanks to her.

Henk Muller and Marin from Band have also been busy building, distributing relief goods and a children's program. Henk also writes about the concerns of poor people about the coming winter. Especially about the lack of firewood. Behind Marin's house there will be a kind of community center and storage for relief supplies and other activities. Construction has started.

Viorel and Elena from Deja do good work every week, fortunately we can support them and through them reach part of the poorest population group in Romania.
