Weekly update 23/23

A lot has happened in the past week. The refrigerated truck that we loaded on Friday 2 June was unloaded in Breaza on Monday 5 June. Imola and Csaba's contacts immediately came to pick it up. A number of them immediately sent an enthusiastic message of thanks with beautiful images. Below is the link for a total overview of Imola.

A thank you letter

On Wednesday we loaded two trucks with non-perishable products from the PLMA, other food and some clothing. Two great loads, Friday the first was unloaded at the farm in Marghita. There it is loaded with potatoes and vegetables. On Saturday this was unloaded at Reghina in Ticau. The second truck was unloaded in Botosani on Saturday. Cristi reacted enthusiastically. Part of the cargo goes into the Ukraine via Igor, I don't know yet if part of it goes to Kherson. Help there is urgently needed after the criminal destruction of the dam, resulting in a flood disaster. Unbelievable how much additional suffering this has caused for these already badly affected people.

Everything grows great on the farm, beautiful to see. Farmers are having a hard time, because their harvest is very difficult to sell and then only at prices that are too low. This cannot last much longer for many of them. The main cause is the war in Ukraine, which has also seriously disrupted the market for agricultural products. The loss of purchasing power of the people in Romania due to the enormous inflation does not help either. Attila also grows strawberries, the sale of this luxury product is very difficult. Throwing it away is not an option, what happens to it can be found in the Viorel photo album below, for example.

Last week we shipped a trailer that will cover part of the route to Breaza by train. This concerns the stretch from Cologne to Arad, the trailer went on the train in Cologne and in Arad another tractor picks it up again for the last stretch to Breaza. We want to gain experience with this and thus avoid the crowds and controls at the Hungary/Romania border. On Wednesday, February 14, the loading of this trailer went well, there was quite a bit of repacking work and we were able to load a beautifully varied trailer with relief goods. The driver had to wait a little longer for his papers, Mission & Relief from Zevenhuizen produced additional documents. At 1:30 PM the driver headed to the terminal in Cologne. Weekly update 14/24

Another great week behind us with a lot of work done. On Wednesday, April 3, there were collection and clean-up jobs and stock from our temporary storage was brought back to the Dulleweg. On Thursday, April 4, there was a clothing campaign in a store in Heerhugowaard. And on Friday April 6, two trucks came to load. As a result, all the last 2.600 Easter packages are now on their way to Romania. A few photos of the loading. Csaba from Breaza has been busy delivering the first shipment of packages. The Phoneo Foundation from Reghin allows him to use a very handy van for this purpose. Many packages have already been delivered to people's homes. The rumors are spreading fast and he has already received questions: when are you coming to us? Weekly update 20/24

Yesterday Nico and I returned home safely from a useful and interesting trip to Romania. The main goal was to discuss the progress and the start of the season on the farm in Marghita with Attila. We were lucky with the weather, it was really spring, and the sowing and planting was in full swing. A beautiful period when you see what happens until the harvest period. I have often written that farmers in Romania are having a hard time due to... the low prices they receive for their products. Unfortunately, quite a few are now in danger of going under. Attila buys a large part of his planting material from a company in Hungary. A modern and large company that grows seeds into small plants under optimal conditions. During the tour we received, I asked, among other things, how future-proof this activity is. The answer was simple – as long as people continue to eat, this will continue.
