Weekly update 9/23

The past week was all about preparations for the packing campaign for Easter packages on Thursday 9 and Friday 10 March.

If you know how necessary food is for our target group, we are happy that we were able to stretch the budget for purchasing food a little. In addition, we have received good batches of food from companies and institutions in our network. Five thousand beautiful packages can now be made. So together we can make a lot of people happy with a food package. Next Thursday and Friday it's time, we're going to pack again and make it fun days. We can still use helpers.

On Wednesday, March 1, additional auxiliary troops also arrived to sort clothes and pack them into boxes. A tough job with a good result. For the rest there were collection jobs again and we started preparing for the packages action. The five thousand empty boxes for the packages were brought by the Dozenhal from Ermelo.

On Thursday, March 2, the first truck arrived with the foodstuffs that go into the packages.





On Friday, March 3, the second truck with foodstuffs came to unload. Another truck came to load for Botosani. The incoming goods were immediately counted, cleaned up further and made room for the packing action. A well-spent Friday that made the packing process clear.

Henk Muller from Band sent photos with explanation again, it gives another insight into life in a gypsy community. It is truly unbelievable that this poverty still exists in an EU country in 2023.

Viorel and Elena from Deaj have done a great job again, admirable and amazing.
Huts in Haranglad watertight with plates from a light street from Tiel and frames and windows from Den Helder. People are happy with these small steps forward. It's great that we reach these people through Viorel. Our depot holders in Breaza Csaba and Imola play an important role in this, they have been our eyes and ears in the region for many years.

Tuesday 7 March we can pick up another 5 pallets of chocolate spread at Brinkers Zoetwaren in Enschede. Enough to put another jar in each package. We will complete the setup with a small group. The catering team will start preparing for Thursday and Friday. Coffee and lunch everything will be done again. We will also see if we can use the heating in the hall, unfortunately the weather forecast does not look good.

They will be nice packages.

Weekly update 8/23

On Tuesday, February 21, we were able to collect more than 3.000 kg of seed potatoes from farmers in the Wieringermeer, a nice gesture from these kind people. Henk Muller from Band can enjoy his garden projects again. There is also plenty for the gardens in and around Breaza. On Wednesday we were able to load them immediately, together with hospital beds, apples, some cake and other food. Another nice load that arrived in Breaza on Friday evening and was unloaded on Saturday morning. Wednesday was busy with repacking work and loading and collecting, it all ended up on its feet again. Weekly update 7/24

Last week we shipped a trailer that will cover part of the route to Breaza by train. This concerns the stretch from Cologne to Arad, the trailer went on the train in Cologne and in Arad another tractor picks it up again for the last stretch to Breaza. We want to gain experience with this and thus avoid the crowds and controls at the Hungary/Romania border. On Wednesday, February 14, the loading of this trailer went well, there was quite a bit of repacking work and we were able to load a beautifully varied trailer with relief goods. The driver had to wait a little longer for his papers, Mission & Relief from Zevenhuizen produced additional documents. At 1:30 PM the driver headed to the terminal in Cologne. I don't know (yet) where the trailer is, we'll hear more about this early next week. Here is the link to photos. Weekly update 41/23

On Wednesday we were able to load another truck with relief supplies. This time for Marghita and Ticau. We had quite a bit of stock so that we could put together a nice shipment again. We were extra careful with loading so that we would not have any problems at the border. This extra work has been useful, this truck crossed the border between Hungary and Romania without any problems on Friday. Besides loading the truck, there was plenty to do on Wednesday, for example we received a batch of lentils in large packaging. This can be done in small plastic pots that we have had in stock for some time. Also picking up stuff and cleaning up, another day well spent. Here is the link to photos. At the end of the afternoon on Friday, most of this cargo was unloaded in Marghita and potatoes and vegetables were loaded there for Ticau.
