Weekly update 52/22

The last blog of the year 2022 starts with a sad message. Monday 2 January is the
funeral of Nin de Vries, Nin turned 83 years old, he has been a volunteer at our foundation for years, we will miss him.

It is no news that we have had a very special year. The worst problems with the corona pandemic were barely over when the war in Ukraine unleashed by Putin broke out. It is almost impossible to imagine the misery that has caused.

It has also changed a lot for our foundation, suddenly we became involved in helping refugees who flow into Romania. After a short time also to refugees who are taken care of in "safe" cities in Ukraine itself. We received goods from sponsors and the financial opportunity to help seriously. We were able to offer a lot of help, especially through the depot in Botosani, Cristi is the pivot in the story there.

Unfortunately, “the novelty” is wearing off a bit and many first responders have already stopped. However, help is needed now more than ever, so we are happy that we still have the opportunity to continue.

Last Thursday Igor "our" pastor from Ukraine was able to pick up another nice batch of food at Cristi's depot. Many people depend on it every day.

We will continue this in 2023, if all goes according to plan the first truck will load in Broek op Langedijk on Wednesday. Another nice load is ready. It is good to see that the soup kitchen in Chernivtsi is up and running again and that food parcels could also be distributed. Cold and hunger is a very annoying combination.

The HIRF foundation from Weesp has been an important partner of the Ukrainian foundation “House of Bread” for 23 years. Here is the link to the website.

Paul the pastor from Getz, the village near the farm in Marghita, sent a photo book of all activities in 2022 there. Everything really happens there thanks to inspiration Paul.

Toth Attila sent pictures of the Christmas celebration in the children's home, nice to see. The second-hand goods store can open again in January, we were able to help with the necessary formalities.

Viorel and Elena have done their best again, providing the people in the homeless center in Tirgu Mures with a meal and also the children from the after-school care. Next week she can bake bread again with flour from the farm in Marghita.

On Friday, January 13, after an interruption of three years, there will be a New Year's reception again, all volunteers and sympathizers of our foundation are very welcome. We look back at 2022 and look forward to our activities in 2023. A great opportunity to meet and exchange ideas.

If all goes well, a truck will load on Wednesday January 4 with destination Botosani.

We wish everyone a healthy and happy 2023.
