Weekly update 39/22

We were unable to load two trucks, we were only able to load a truck with destination Botosani last Wednesday. Unfortunately a second truck was not available for a ride to Toth Attila in Peris.

We were able to send the truck for Botosani to Romania/Ukraine with a nice and varied load of relief goods. Besides food, clothing and furniture, especially a lot of confectionery and medical items that they can use well in the Ukraine. There were some pick-up jobs, everything went smoothly again thanks to our well-trained volunteers.

Cristi forwarded photos of our joint contact person Igor from Ukraine. The distribution from soup kitchens to the many refugees from the war zone continues every day. Good that we can support Igor and his team. How they want to do all that in the winter is still a mystery to me.

Saturday the truck that we had loaded on Wednesday could be unloaded in Botosani. The driver is not very adept at reversing. The new kitchen of Casa Ioana has been put into use. The eldest son of Aline and Cristi went to study at a university in Iasi, a big change for the family.

Unfortunately, our lobby to obtain surplus stocks of food is difficult. You can also read about it in the newspaper, for example food banks have the same problem. More demand and less supply. Manufacturers optimize their production process and sell part of their surpluses to all kinds of market parties. Supermarkets also sell products that are close to the best before date with significant discounts and give them away less often. Fortunately, we have many people and companies in our network who have a warm heart for our work and a lot is coming in. However, the demand is high, so it is a bit of a compromise for us at the moment.

Toth Attila sent photos with an explanation of a fire in the gypsy quarter of Reghin Apalina, there are victims to regret. In the same neighborhood, a young woman died of Covid.

Reghina from Ticau has been busy restoring houses. Gerrit van der Starre has written a newsletter about it. She has also been handing out food again. It's good that things like this happen and that we can help with that.

Henk Muller received a number of pallets with peanuts and half a pallet with figs from a nut wholesaler. The figs will soon go to Henk in Band. We can use the other products for the Christmas gift promotion. Henk sent pictures of the distribution of the freight that Csaba brought there from Breaza.

Here the link to photos with explanation of Henk. For example, about the unlucky person are the mobility scooter with bad batteries.

From Csaba from Breaza I received photos of the construction of the house for the family who now lives in a caravan, see the previous weekly report. The foundation of the house is now ready!
