Weekly update 3/22

We have had a busy week. Collection of hospital beds and mattresses at a number of healthcare institutions in Amsterdam on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday was a big job. We are not done with it yet next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we have to pick up the hospital beds again.

On Wednesday 19 January we loaded a truck for the 3rd time this year in Broek op Langedijk, this time with destination Botosani. Loading went smoothly with a small group of experienced volunteers. In addition to the two trips to pick up beds in Amsterdam, there were two more trips with a trailer, also to Amsterdam. A third team of collectors first went to load at two addresses in Egmond, after unloading this in Broek op Langdijk, this team went again to Schagen, Julianadorp and Den Helder. She came back with a truck full of useful stuff, it's getting late for them.

Thanks to all these joint efforts, we again have a nice stock of relief supplies. On Wednesday I received many photos and messages about the difficult conditions under which many people live in Romania, which made it clear again why we do it.

Thursday afternoon Rob and I went to Amsterdam again to pick up mattresses and then to Harderwijk to pick up a pallet of dog food at Yarrah. This food goes to a shelter near Reghin, we have been helping these people for many years with the food we get. My wife Jannie is the “engine” behind this. On the way back we received a phone call on the Houtribdijk near Enkhuizen, a request to pick up mattresses at the address where we had already been. At first we couldn't get them and now they had to leave. Although it is not easy, staying calm is the motto in such a situation. We decided to set course for Amsterdam and pick them up immediately, and as a result, we were on schedule and were home by 8:00 PM.

Monday 17 January the trailer was unloaded in Botosani, which we had loaded on 12 January in Broek op Langedijk. Cristi happy again, he can continue to hand out. The next one is already on its way with, among other things, hospital beds that partly go to the Ukraine with mini vans. In addition to the rising tensions with Russia, there are many corona infections there and healthcare is cracking at the seams. It is special that we can also offer a little help here through Cristi.

Despite the bad weather, Reghina from Ticau went out to help people in her environment. Saturday I had her on the phone, it is very cold in Romania at the moment it freezes 18 °C in the night.

Toth Attila from Reghin/ Peris had an adventurous drive with his car. A number of gypsies and a horse had to help him out.

Henk Muller travels throughout the region to help people in need, being inside possibilities he does a lot together with Viorel. They keep busy, Viorel is again baking bread in the oven at his shop and will be handing them out today.

Henk's photos and explanation speak for themselves.

With the next transport, a batch of bread mix goes to Breaza and from there to Deaj, I hope that it will be possible to bake bread in the same oven.

The number of corona infections is also increasing in Romania, and Paul and his family in Getz are also struggling with it. In the building for the homework project was another film showing.

Next Wednesday we will load a trailer with destination Breaza. Partly with the hospital beds, the demand for them is high according to Imola. Care institutions and hospitals in the region there could use as many as 100.

In addition to the hospital beds, there are several pick-up jobs.
