Weekly update 28/21

In the past week, no fewer than three trucks with relief goods have been unloaded in Romania. It is nice to see and hear what we have achieved with that. On Monday 5 July, both in Breaza and Botosani, they were busy unloading the two trucks that we had loaded in Broek op Langedijk the week before.

On Wednesday 7 July we loaded a truck with relief supplies in Broek op Langedijk smoothly and without any problems. On Friday 9 July it was already unloaded in Marghita and Ticau. In addition, relief supplies were loaded in three trips at St. HIRF in Weesp and taken to Broek op Langedijk. There were more collection jobs, for example in Den Helder, Lutjebroek, Zaandam and Egmond.

A great result, many people have been helped with this. The people we look after together with our partners can use this well, photos and stories of them make this clear.

Summer is a better period for poor people than winter, but life in Romania is far from easy for many people. Due to the Covid-19 misery, their minimum purchasing power has often become even less, with all the consequences that entails. According to a report by the World Bank (prepared for Covid-19), about 15% of the Romanian population still lives below the poverty line. That is about 3.5 million people, who have to live on less than 200 euros a month.

Something that also happens regularly, parents emigrate abroad and leave their children behind in Romania. It is unclear how those children survive.” One in seven children grows up in extreme poverty.

What we do with our direct form of assistance helps, you can say, they are just drops on a hot plate, but without these drops the plate was much hotter.

Henk Muller again sent photos with an explanation, which, as we are used to, provide a good insight into the situation in and around Deaj. Also important are the attempts to make people self-reliant in potato and vegetable cultivation, the results are encouraging.

Photos of the activities there also came in from Breaza. The school results of the children who

live with Csaba and Imola look good. Something to which the teacher of their after-school care also contributed significantly. In this difficult school season with all kinds of limitations and also learning at home, this is a great achievement. Raising and teaching children is not an easy task, but it is very satisfying when they are doing well.

Immediately after receiving the goods from the transport from Friday to Saturday, Reghina from Ticau started making packages and distributing them. The images speak for themselves.

Attila from Marghita sent some photos of the harvesting at the farm and the unloading of the truck.

As always, Cristi from Botosani has also been busy with his construction project and relief efforts.

Next Wednesday there will be no truck to load. There is, however, a large batch of goods in Amsterdam that must be packaged differently and there are a few pick-up jobs. Via a personal whatsapp message I send the question to our volunteers to help and explain the work.

We organize an annual BBQ for the volunteers and can count on the hospitality of Jaap and Geeske Ligthart, they will soon be moving. On August 14, however, we are again welcome at their address at Nijverheidsweg 4 1751 HG Schagerbrug. You can register for this pleasant afternoon/evening by sending an email to info@stichtingpromotie.nl. For catering it is important that we know how many people to expect. My advice, don't let this pass you by, it's always fun and a great opportunity to meet each other in an informal way.

Next week there will probably be a short weekly report from Romania. After a gap of a year and a half, I and Nico leave next Tuesday for a ten-day tour to our local people in Marghita, Breaza and Botosani.

Suddenly, the number of Covid-19 infections is skyrocketing, especially among young people without vaccination. I think our volunteers have all been vaccinated by now and are therefore relatively safe.
