Weekly update 52 / December 2020

Last week it went a bit differently than originally intended, a trailer was loaded on Wednesday December 16 instead of on Thursday. So we improvise, but we managed to send a truck with relief goods to Romania for the 56th time in 2020. We were able to load a lot of food, they will be very happy with this food in Botosani. Thanks to Joerns Healthcare, we were able to collect 10 hospital beds with mattresses in Amsterdam and a whole batch of curtains from Content in Wormerveer.

On Thursdays and Fridays, a few of our volunteers helped the Amsterdam Food Bank transfer goods from the headquarters to an additional storage area. On Friday we were allowed to pick up a nice party in Enschede at Brinkers Zoetwaren.

At the moment we still have quite a bit of stock, with this we can help a lot of people in Romania. As it looks now, we will load the following transport at the beginning of January 2021. This unless special situations arise, which is not uncommon in our “branch”.

On Tuesday December 15 a trailer was loaded at the HRIF foundation in Weesp with destination the small town Gherla in Romania. As you can see on the video below, things are going just a bit faster in Weesp. Unloading has now taken place in Gherla.

On Thursday, December 17, a batch of 18.000 kg potatoes and 4.000 kg carrots was loaded at the farm in Marghita. On Friday these were unloaded at Toth Attila in Peris and at Phoneo in Reghin, the distribution will soon start again. It is of course wonderful that this is possible, it is a very concrete form of assistance.

On Monday, December 14, the Christmas packages were delivered to Getz, with the help of a whole convoy of horses and wagons. It was a pity that the weather was drizzly and that there was no snow, nevertheless beautiful pictures from an “other world”. Many happy people there too, also potatoes will be brought to these people soon.

Reghina from Ticau has been able to provide the last eight houses with a new roof. It gives a bit of mixed feeling, nice that their houses are in any case waterproof, but you also realize that such a family lacks much more. Getting out of such a situation as a child is extremely difficult, there is much more needed to it. Reghina does her utmost to alleviate the worst need. Soon these people will also get a heater.

Our friend Mr. Piu, who lives in Filpișu Mic, is going to live in the care center in Deda this winter. Being alone was difficult for him and thanks to the intervention Imola and Csaba from Breaza he now has entitlement, warmth and regular meals. He lives with two others in a room in the renovated part on the ground floor.

Henk Muller is back in action with handing out and making contacts in the area around Deaj. The pictures that come in speak for themselves, it is the tough reality for these EU citizens in 2020. The truck that we loaded on Thursday December 10 was unloaded there on Monday December 14.

Not at the petting zoo, but just at work.

The same truck was first unloaded in Breaza, it was immediately busy again with picking up and handing out the goods. The 5.000 boxes of eggs were a great success, the people that receive this were very happy with it.

Toth Attila is a multidimensional man with many activities, he has bought a new bear for his pigs, the other pictures are of handing out eggs.

In Botosani, the truck that we loaded on Wednesday December 16 was unloaded there early on Friday morning. I think these two truck drivers drove from Broek op Langedijk to Botosani in an absolute record time. Unloading was also very fast, the new unloading location is ideal for this. There is now also a well, so there is water for the animals and in the summer for the trees and plants. On Saturday, a store's delivery came in to make an additional 300 packages or more. A start has been made immediately with this, 252 pieces are ready, Monday again. Together with the food we have brought in the last two months, it has become the largest food aid campaign ever in Botosani and the surrounding area. Cristi will be taking the packages to distribution points in various villages in the near future. A great result, nice to work with people like Cristi, his family the children from Casa Ioana and team members.

Next Wednesday there will be clean-up and collection jobs for a small group. Do not come to our storage without prior notice, this for the well-known reasons.

The corona problem is also still far from solved in Romania, although the vaccination will start this year. Perhaps a small-scale symbolic action, but it still gives hope that the hostage situation by the Covid-19 virus will end.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to organize an end-of-year meeting and no New Year's meeting in the canteen from our fire station. Not fun at all, but for now it is no different.
